Just made my first iTunes store purchase from the Canadian store (Elvis Costello-Futurama Sessions if anyone cares) and have run into a huge problem. My LaCie 52X32X52X USB 1 external burner is not compatible with iTunes. When I try to burn with iTunes I get an error message that reads: "The attempt to burn a disc has failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry." The disc is then ejected. I normally use Toast 6 Titanium to burn music but the files from the iTunes store are protected AAC. Is there anyway to convert them? Toast tried to convert them but they wouldn't play once converted.

I'm not sure I quite follow this. A USB connection is barely able to handle a 4x burn rate, nevermind 52x. Try setting it lower (4, 2 or 1).

That, along with plugging the drive directly to my iMac rather than the hub solved the problem.
Thank you for the response.

I have a sony CRX 1750U and it is not compatable with iTunes. I'm using iTunes 4.7 and I have Toast 5.2.1. Is there a way to burn the songs using toast or what can I do.
I have an iMac DV 400 meg G3 running OS 10.2,8

Are you certain this cd-burner won't work? (maybe a speed problem like above?) I read reports of it [CRX 1750U] burning iTunes cds from OS9. The manufacturer doesn't even gaurantee that it will work with OSX at all. If the speed setting don't solve the problem i can sell off a USB1 Burner (used it with my cube) that does work with iTunes for round $50 (if interested email me at: uwwkhaki@mac.com)
