Good Morning Everyone,
I am in the decision process switching to Mac after many moons using PC's. Right now my PC is 'dead'...well the power supply is dead, the hard drive is still intact.
Ultimately I'd like a top of the line 17" PowerBook but would like to wait until after Macworld to see if there are any improvements or changes. I know that after the announcements these may take a few months to implement.
With that in mind I'm contemplating a top of the line 14" iBook with 768MB ram.
My 'heavy hitting' software is Macromedias Studio Mx 2004 and Photoshop 7. I do have one 'light weight' pedigree program that I'll have to run on an emulator as there is not a Mac version available. Would the iBook be able to handle this?
My thought is the iBook would get me started, then when the PBooks do come out with whatever upgrades will be made I'll use that as my main stationary machine and the iBook when we travel.
Thoughts and information appreciated.

The iBook will work just fine for macromedia and photoshop.
But is there any computer specs for the lightweight app? You shouldnt count on it, but it could work. I just used the vpc for really small things, and I found out that a game that demanded a 200mhz didnt hold on the computer... Was really slow.

The pedigree program is Breedmate (www.breedmate.com). It says in the compatibility section that customers do successfully run it on VirtualPC or other emulators. It's a basic spreadsheet program, can copy, paste and import directly from Access, Excel or Word.
Thank you.

Yeah, then i should wotk, but mind you, not at light speed. More like the old T ford.. Well, not that bad. But it will be a bit slow, and if you use it often it will get a bit annoying after a while. But photoshop will run like a dream. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Good luck with your computers and merry christmas!

Hi,
If the intention is to eventually use the iBook when traveling then the 12" is the better choice. The 12 is so much easier to carry around and is simpler to pack. A lot of people are concerned about the smaller screen, but it has not been an issue for me. If you find the text is too small for your eyes, then a simple click of the apple key and + key zooms in a bit making the text larger.
The other benefit is the 12 is less of an investment compaired to the 14's price.
