I have successfully used iMovie (4.0.1) and iDVD (4.0.1) and now have a .dv file on my internal drive. I would like to back-up this .dv file to an external drive (ION 160GB firewire). The external drive works OK with all other files but I cann't complete backing up the .dv file.
I get the following message: "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in the file could not be read or written. (error code -36)"
I also get the following message written in the Consol Log: "## Component Manager: attempting to find symbols in a component alias of type (regR/carP/x!bt)". (I'm not sure if the Consol Log message is associated with the error).
I suspect that the .dv file is OK since I used iDVD to burn a disk. Is there anything inherent in the .dv file that prevents it to be copied? If so, how could I back it up to an other drive?

Try copying your entire iMovie project folder to the external drive. This should get the .dv file and any bits and pieces connected to it copied over. iMovie and iDVD keep all their components together in a project folder. Keep these pieces together, or they may not work correctly.
