Buying before or after the expo, whats the big deal. What new things do you think will be added to the powerbook g4 15 inch. Prices will be higher with the new products anyways right? Im happy buying before just as long as the 1.33GHz powerbook can run 10.4 Tiger. Will it be able to? And with the superdrive? Is it really a must? I just want to be able to burn cd's, and import my mp3's and burn school work on to disc's, the como-drive still has RW correct?

It should run Tiger just fine. However, I doubt prices will go up. More often than not, the new computer have the same price as the old ones. Apple will just discount the old computers a few hundred dollars to make them sell as well (to people that don't necessarily need to speed compared to a couple hundred dollars).
If you need a computer now, feel free to go ahead. The current computers are great. If you can wait, what do you have to lose to see what is announced before you buy. The main thing is, if you buy now, don't blame Apple if you later decide you should have waited.

Another quick question also, during the Expo, when the new product is announced, how long do you have to wait till its on the shelf and you can buy it?

The Expo has a lot of updates to existing products.

No. It's updates to EXISTING products. For example, if the eMac gets updated, it would stay the same price, but go from 1.25 GHz to, say, 1.5. The PowerBook 15" would either just get faster, OR it'd get a G5 processor. We're hoping for the G5. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
The SuperDrive can burn DVD's (five times the capacity of a normal CD). If you don't need that, just go with a combo drive.

Nobody knows. Sometimes they announce something "Available Immediately." Sometimes they announce something which will "Ship within the first half of 2005" (like Tiger). That's a wide window of possibility. Really, though, nobody knows, because it is also possible Apple will announce something but miss their delivery date. Apple gets crucified whichever way they do it. If they announce early, people crucify them for making them wait weeks or months for delivery. If they announce on time, other people crucify them for making the machine they bought 2 weeks ago obsolete.
What can you take from this. Well, if you need a machine now, get it now, and if you can wait, then you can gamble that the January announcement will hit the shelves before swimsuits become current seasonal wear.

I ordered a 12" PowerBook (new rev 2) during last year's show, and we had it within a week or two, if I recall correctly. On the other hand, my original G5 order took nearly seven months to ship /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

It really depends. The dual G5's with Geforce 6800 Ultra DDL's took months to ship. On the other hand, PowerBook updates shipped within a couple weeks.

Hey, theres some new info.
http://www.thinksecr.../0412expo3.html
According to thinksecret (remember, these are educated guesses based on leaks from Apple employees and rumors from reliable sources, not to be taken as absolute fact), Apple will be releasing both iLife '05 (will come free with all new Macs) and iWork (a new version of AppleWorks that includes KeyNote 2 and a new program, and it would come free on the Macs it currently comes free on, namely the eMac, iMac, and iBook, plus the new mini-Mac rumored). So you could get some extra software by waiting till the 11th.

Do you know, typically, how long after the Expo it takes before the new software is included with the hardware? I was thinking of buying a 15" powerbook before the Expo, but if new software is expected to be included with it after (iLife '05?), I will try to hold off -- as long as it's not a long time!
