Bleu Rose Ltd. has released Black & Bleu v10.0, its final release of the error code analyzer. The company has also decided to stop development of all its Mac applications, citing "the shrinking number of Mac users ... and the apparently significant number of thieves willing to steal ... coupled with Apple's seeming lack of concern about compatibility across its product versions and the alarming problem with its software quality." Bleu Rose said it "will continue to exist but with a much different product direction in the future." more

Perhaps if the average person cared what an error code meant...
Perhaps if they had ANY product that wasn't aimed at a niche of a niche of a niche of a niche of a market...
Perhaps if those products weren't WAY overpriced...
Perhaps if their website didn't look like a 4th grader made it...
Then...just maybe...they might've had people buying their products...
It's always sad to see a contributing developer leave the platform. Too bad they didn't contribute much, as many others have done the error code thing all along too.

The Mac user base has increased substantially since the success of the iPod. Just look at Apple stock and the number of new iMacs sold. I remember Black and Bleu as a handy reference when using System 7 and 8. It wasn't needed as much with 9, since 9 handled errors much better. I haven't had an error code on X since it came out, so perhaps it is the shrinking base of System 7,8 and 9 users that affects B&B. OSX makes them irrelevant.
It also seems to make them forget about the proper use of punctuation. The run on sentence explaining why this is not their fault is truly a record breaker.

If you want to see the truth behind this entire story, go here and read the comments posted by users about their product:
http://www.versiontr...eedback&vid=All
Begone and go play with Microsoft errors. At least there you will find a use for your product.

The only error code that I can recall was in 10.2.x and that's the error 1282 for the print center...
As for the product, IF it was <$5 for the 'standard' version and <$30 for the 'pro' version MAYBE people would have shelled out for it. As it stands, the people making the product thought much too highly of themselves, and their code, to survive. They act like an elitist group and deserve to be ended...
Now where my shotgun?? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

HAHA. What a cop out. This application has always sucked. I even bought it a while back because I thought it was a good idea. Boy was I wrong. Just using the program was a challenge. The author needs to go to programming school. Good riddance you will not be missed.

Glad I red this thread. I was wondering how important this app was. Apparently it's not all that. The web sit looks like an old OS 7 desktop scheme that should have been destroyed. It's no wonder no one is taking these people seriously. Their web page looks like one of those outdated product pages for legacy users, or something. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

> This application has always sucked.
I first became a registered B&B user under OS 8.1-8.5. It was quite a useful program for troubleshooting extension conflicts back then. The competing program, Extension Overload, complemented B&B nicely. If you couldn't find the answer to your problem in B&B, it was usually in E.O., and vice versa.
I think this developer actually did a lot for the Mac community on a historic basis. Unfortunately, like others here, I find little need for such nuts-and-bolts utilities anymore to keep OS X running smoothly. Let's not beat them up too much more... the market has already done that.

I can agree with that. The reason they are getting slammed here is because of the way they chose to announce their decision. If they had just been honest it would have made a big difference. But no, they chose to come up with some lame excuse and blame it all on Apple and Mac users. Blaming your customers for your demise is irrational and stupid. I suspect Black & Bleu is and has always been a one man operation trying to make people think it is a major software developer.
I also am angry that the Mac news sites picked this up and ran with it. This is no major announcement by any standard of journalism. Letting some software bot scour the internet for anything mentioning the Macintosh and printing it without evaluating its importance is just plain unfair to Apple.
