I bought one at DV Expo here in NYC. It's not that great. It doesn't really control anything well. Try to figure out which buttons do what. My McIntosh Pre-Amp is listed, but it doesn't work with the code. So I had it search. It found a code for some other manufacturer. All it would do was turn the unit off and on. I did it manually with the remote. It said that it was good, but I could never get it to work. Problems with other devices as well.
I'm now playing with the universal remote that came with the DVR I just got from Time Warner.

Thanks for the info on the remote. I was thinking about something like that remote because I've got more remotes than will fit it my remote caddy.
McIntosh makes serious stuff. What's the rest of your setup like? I have separates too but they're nothing special. The best component I have is my speakers which are Vandersteen 2Ci speakers. If I only had a bigger budget and a better room layout for placement.

melgross, you're saying you actually bought an 880 already? far as i know the prototype was only shown this friday gone at CES. i'm going to assume that you meant a different model. i'mot not sure exactly what problems you're having with the model you got, but i've had a 688 for several months now, and i've found it to be one of the best consumer devices i've ever bought. (it's sertainly my wife's favourite since she can now watch tv without me being there! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif)
if you haven't already, you should give their tech support a call. logitech's harmony support line has some of the most knowledgeable and helpful staff i have ever encountered. if you like, drop me an email at dondredd@hotmail.com , and i'd be happy to help you out.

EDIT:
oh and you should be careful about buying harmony remotes cheaply. to the best of my knowledge, every company that i've seen selling them below $200 are not authorised resellers and as such, you would not get a warranty on your remote. the best prices i've found are at bestbuyplasma
EDIT 2:
logitech currently has a 50% off sale on the current harmony line up here
