Hi...
I've been trying to get AOL up and running via regular phone line (no cable modem or DSL) and AirPort on my mom's new eMac. We connected just fine hard wired via the 56K modem, but I've been trying to follow the directions to get the AirPort to work. We have the AirPort 2.0 base station (AOL compatible) and standard card installed in the computer. Phone line is connected to the base station and it is plugged in. Card is installed in the computer and the computer is receiving a signal from the base station. I turn on AirPort and try to connect to AOL and the little phone icon says "Dialing..." and the AOL sign-on is stuck at Step 1... AirPort icon shows it is on and receiving a connection... dialup is not happening. I've been through the instructions and the AirPort Setup assistant...
What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated!

You need the AOL 5.0 for Macs software if you're in OS 9. Or the latest 10.x version if you run OS X.
In Applications/Internet Connect make sure that "Share my Internet Connection with other AirPort-equipped computers" is NOT selected. You need multiple AOL accounts to do sharing.
If that doesn't work, download "Designing AirPort Networks" from the Apple Support Knowledge Base. Use AirPort Admin Utility (Show All Settings) to check your base station's configuration. You may have a setting that AOL does not like. Try changing various settings one at a time (WEP to 40-bit; WEP off, etc.) to see if you can connect.

Oops. Need my morning coffe. That sharing "off" box is in OS X System Prefs/Sharing/Internet.
