Minimum charge at our place to do anything at Apple is around $75 but give it a few days and I am sure someone myself gets it, it will be opened and the information on how to will become widely available. I can't imagine it to be very difficult... from the photos I have seen thus far, the top seems to be held by a series of plastic snaps (there may be a hidden screw or bar that needs to pushed) and the single RAM module is along is along one side in vertical position. It can't be too difficult.
I agree that one has to add RAM; 256MB is way too little... perhaps a better alternative might have been to have 256MB soldered on the logic board as they do in 12" PB... that way adding extra RAM does not waste the original RAM.

However, therein lies a potential risk with the Mac Mini. Perhaps there are a number of people like you who might otherwise buy iMacs, iBooks, or eMacs, but now have a $500 option to upgrade. Wall Street seems a little concerned, judging by the market reaction.

Wrong. Read the articles, not just the headlines. Wall Streets brief "concern" was that Apple hit its target for the number of iPods they expected to sell in the 4th Quarter. Wall Street typically reacts well to companies hitting their targets, but with all they hype over iPods they were hoping for some wild result exceeding expectations.
The market reaction when Jobs announced the Mac mini was actually favorable and the stock soared.
Today we get news that Apple quadrupled earnings in the 4th quarter.
People who aren't buying eMacs, iMacs or PowerMacs because the entry level price is too high can't cannibalize sales of those products if they do buy a Mac mini.

The only thing stopping me from buying is the RAM issue, I am not going to pay Apple $425.00+ for a Gig of RAM when I can buy it and install for $189.00. As long as opening the case does not void the warrenty I will still buy one. I am not Apple certified, but I am competent.

I don't think there is any doubt that I will be getting a Mini (after all the delays that are to follow January 22nd /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif), but I am really upset at the whole $425 for a 1G RAM stick...Sheesh!! I think the $75 price for the 512MB is fair, but what a joke for a 1G stick....I plan to wait for some people to crack this thing open and post some pics on uprading it with another vendor's Ram. Crucial.com, here I come!!
