I currently have a G4 desktop (one of the first ones, 450Mhz I think) I've had it for over 4 years now and am thinking of ugrading to an iBook 1.33Ghz G4 with superdrive. I'm just out of school so this is a major purchase for me. I'm a graphic designer who will need it for running graphics programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and In Design.
I just need to know if it's worth it? Will the iBook run all these with no problems and is it worth the money?
Thanks in advance.

The iBook will run those programs with little problems, but try to get as much RAM as you can. those are memory hogs and you want to avoid using virtual memory as much as possible for speed reasons.
You may also want to consider screen size as those programs often have a lot of tool boxes up at one time and it can get crowded.

Keep in mind too that whether you get a 12" or a 14" iBook, screen resolution is going to be the same i.e., the 14" will show exactly the same thing as the 12" only a bit bigger. You would be better off looking into one of the less expensive PowerBooks that support variable resolutions.
Or a Mac mini using the keyboard, mouse, and monitor that you have now. And yes, definitely max out the RAM whichever way you decide.

I currently have a 1.0Ghz iBook with 512MB of RAM in it and it works great for Photoshop. That being said, I don't know what the performance would be with mutliple programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. For the money, it is a great deal, and yes, definately try to get the full 1GB or 1.25GB of RAM allowed.

My biggest concern would be screen resolution. The iBook doesn't have a big scree and it doesn't support multiple displays (the PowerBook does).
Have you considered an iMac G5?
I'm a designer as well, and I've been working on a 1GZ PB, with max RAM, using an external display, until next Apple desktop launch ( maybe a new dual G5). But my set up works fine, except from HD, which is solved by an external firewire drive.
Cheers!

I need something that I can take places with me. So the iMac G5 was out of question.. But I decided to buy the iBook. I just got it last night, and so far I love it. Thank you for your input...and the upgraded RAM, will be my next purchase..thanks to your comments.
Thank you.
