2 Rise of Nations questions

Hi for Mac users with one-button mice, could you tell me the various ways to control an army? I figuered out you can change their direction by holding down the shift key while clicking and rotating the mouse. But I want to experiment with different formations.
The other question is for the purposes of achieving a high score during a CTW campaign, isn't it better to build up your economy and then go for the crush? Time isn't factored into a score is it? Thanks.

I found the answer to my first question buried in the hotkeys section of the options menu. So I wrote them all down. Does anyone have any thoughts on which formations work the best in certain situations?
