I won't bash this item, but I agree I'd love to see a combo USB/firewire hub the same x/y dimensions as a mini (but much shorter). I have 5 firewire devices and hubs are not only expensive, almost nobody makes them. Yes, you can daisy chain, but you have to have all the "upstream" ones powered on and mounted to get the farthest one to work properly.

Let's see, 24x7 operation would put this at 333 days average use.
Definitely not worth it.

It needs those spinny rims that keep spinning when the Mini is not running... Totally bling...

This is a strictly gimmicky item so I cannot blast it. On the other hand, several people here have correctly stated that more functional devices in the same form factor could be designed. I would like to see some type of port/storage device:

    [*]4-port USB (1 in front);
    [*]4-port FireWire (1 in front, 1 internal);
    [*]and an internal 3.5 drive bay for a HDD (at least ATA-100 bridged to the internal FireWire connection.
    [/list]Such a device would give the user extra ports and the ability to add a faster external drive in a single small chassis.

I've got a PowerMate - this would rock with it. If Cee Pee You can tie into it - then double+ cool!

Along with a pair of the original Harman/JBL Creature speakers in white -- they had downfiring blue LEDs. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It might have practical use depending on how it is designed. Apple says you aren't supposed to stack minis because it blocks the wireless and putting pressure on the acrylic top can prevent the combo drive from working properly. It looks like from the pictures that the 3/4" height might be enough gap to allow decent wireless reception, the bottom of the stand needs to rest on the aluminum edge of the lower mini to allow the CD drive to operate correctly. I can't tell from the pictures if this is the case.
