How do you transfer iPhoto albums from one computer to new computer? I have a new iMac G5 and when I tried to transfer my iPhoto files, I got all the photos but not in the albums I had so tediously created. Is there a way to accomplish this? I have searched the Apple support site without success......
The next problem is going from iPhoto 4 to 5...I have purchased iLife 5 but am now reluctant to attempt to install. Is there a way to ensure that albums won't be lost when going from iPhoto 4 to 5?

If you have no new photos in your G5 iPhoto library, trash it, move the iPhoto Library folder from your other Mac into the Pictures folder intact. Then repair disk permissions. Then launch iPhoto.
To do the transfer connect the two computers with a firewire and boot one into the target mode - see http://docs.info.app...l?artnum=58583.
Once you have the new library up and running, updating to V5 should not be a problem. Just be sure you do your maintenance before and after.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

Either way, once you have iPhoto05 installed, the program will want to upgrade your Photo Library format the first time you try to open it. Back up first.
Before I upgraded, I saved a copy of the iLife04 programs in a different folder, renaming each with 04 in their names, and did a full backup of my entire HD to an external drive.

If you decide to update to V5 be sure to do an immediate update to 5.0.1 before trying to launch and update your library. Also make sure you have a backup copy of your entire iPhoto Library folder before the update. Best to be safe than sorry.

Will do. I have learned the pain of not having backup on an upgrade, and once that happens, it tends to refocus your attention to detail...thanks for the help.
