Hi:
I'm trying to do a merger for two stocks in quicken from 1993.
(i'm doing all my back data to be complete)
I tried using the Advanced option under the Investment Actions
in the portfolio, entered the info a few times (using 1.275 for
the old to new share multiplier and picking both stocks from
the picker) and nothing shows up in the portfolio.
I checked the transaction history of both stocks; nothing. I
check the portfolio; no reflection of the merger.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Foob

PS if you know a way to handle these transactions by hand, it would be appreciated, especially if the actions button part just doesn't work.

An update:
ok, so i've tried googling around to see if anyone has an answer to
how a merger is supposed to work, or how to manually make one.
No luck.
I also opened a new file, made two stocks and merged them. There was
no transaction entry in the portfolio, couldn't find any recording of
it in reports, and generally didn't see anything showing a merger happened.
This is the same result that happens in my "real" file.

I had someone try the stock merger in Quicken 2005 and
same results as 2004.
Why is this feature in there if it doesn't work?
Or, am i missing something about houw it works; should it
not show a transaction in the portfolio or the stock history
if a merger happens?

Stock merge should work - can you provide the specific detail of what you tried:
- I owned 100 shares of compnay ABC
- a merger occured with company XYZ
- 1.5 XYZ shares were issued for each share of ABC stock
- the closing price of the combined company on the first day of trading was $50.00
- I entered the above information using the Corporate Acquisition action
- the total number of shares I expected to see after entering this transaction was 150
- I saw XX shares listed in the Portfolio view
- I saw YY shares listed under the transactions tab in the Security Detail window

I just tried a merger on 3/16/99 and it worked this time. It generated two Move Shares as expected.
Note: the transaction below i fudged with moved shares in/out, and this seems to be partially what the merger function does.
I went back and tried my original problem merger, and no luck; details:
The merger of Mattel and Fisher price occured 12/7/93.
320 shares Fisher Price surrendered
408 shares Mattel Inc took them over.
Ratio is 1.275
Price new shares 27.625

When the merged company was originally added with the "buy shares" action the corporate acquisition function seems to work. When the merged company was added though "move shares in" it does not.
I have found this to be the case at least with Q '04
