Hey
i have just recently made the big leap over the divide between PCville and MACland, do i need to secure myself some anti-virus software, i have heard that one of the big time benefits of MACs, especially OSX, is that there are no virus threats. i am using the file share software Limewire aswell, will this mean disaster for me?
thanks for the help/words/time

Without limewire, you could easily forget the words virus, worm, trogan ect ect
However, you never know what could be sent over filesharing networks.....
Fortunately most of the crap is for windblows machines /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif but you will have to judge the dangers for yourself!

and don't forget to go into your Prefernces>>Internet and Network Sharing and start your firewall.
and never ever install Norton Utilities
one or two people like it, but the majority of us don't...
welcome to the light and enjoy.

-zzzuppp,
A couple of places to get there. One is the Light Switch in the Dock, other is under the blue Apple->System Preferences->Sharing folder->click Firewall tab.

open your preferences
there are 4 or 5 rows depending how much "stuff" you have.
top left will have the SHOW ALL panel
the next row is PERSONAL for your desktop/screensaver, dock etc.
3rd row is HARDWARE. for CD/DVD Displays, Energy Saver, kb and mouse etc
4th row is INTERNET & NETWORK which on the right side kore or less will be a Blue Folder called SHARING .. there is a yellow with a man icon on the folder.
click that one and your SHARING preferences will open.
select FIREWALL
if you are not sharing any files or printers.. click on START
close it all up and yer done. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
