The shuffle has a built in battery and from what I've read it isn't replaceable. Is this true? What is the life-span of the shuffle battery?

Since it's lithium-ion battery (also seen in your cell phone & laptop) it should be similar to other lithium-ions; say a few hundred cycles or a couple of years. Then it's dead for good unless someone comes up with a battery replacement for the shuffle.
It's a sad thing about gadgets these days. You used to be able to get a cassette walkman or portable CD player for less than $100 each and use them for 5-10 years. Now, gadgets have you on a subscription plan. If you spend x hundred dollars on a phone, PDA, or iPod, it's not yours for a decade. For one reason or another, you will need to spend that x hundred dollars again in as little as 36 months. And we'll probably want a new computer then too. Sometimes I wonder if government tax rates are not going up as much as these types of perpetual taxes we pay to private industry.
For some reason, I bought a shuffle anyway. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
