If yes, how do I import/play those midi files into iTunes?

You don't have to convert them. I have a couple in my library (standard Quicktime midi files though, not karaoke).

I've just tried a couple of .kar files, and they don't seem to play in iTunes. .mid files do; if they open with Quicktime just try 'open with'
