whirring sound on ipod

I have a 2 year old ipod 10gb (non docking) that has been great until lately, when it now makes a whirring sound when the hard drive is working. Is this the beginning of the end?

My ipod when it started to do that a little while before it croaked.Then i bought a new better ipod.
