I would like to try to create ( if that's the correct word to use ) some very simple Mac OS X or 9 games.
What is your recommendation ( s ) for the software I could try?

Well, I'd say that learning to program is your best bet.
You could always program using shiver REALbasic, which should simplify things.

You could try Coldstone. You can also make simple games using Flash or Shockwave.

Bloated, slow code for the sake of avoiding proper software design just rubs me the wrong way.
