I have run into a problem. I have a credit card statement that has a credit balance due to some returned items. If any of you have run into this before or know how to handle this, I would like to know how do I handle this when it comes to reconciling a statement? Will I be able to use a "-", or do I need to enter it in red? If I enter it in read, how do I go about doint it?

All the returned items should show up as the equivalent of "payment" entries in your credit card account. In your Quicken account register, simply enter those transactions with the value in the payment column.

I guess that I didn't make myself clear, I realize that the returned items will show up as payments. I am wondering how to handle a credit balance in the reconcile startup that you do monthly or wnenevery you receive a new statement?

I sometimes carry a positive balance on my CCs, due
to time-of-month when i pay or because i over-pay
by a bit.
Quicken handles this by saying i have a $-16.45 balance,
which really means it's a positive balance against a
credit card acccount.
The Credit card analysis in Insights handles this correctly
though, stating there is a positive balance on a card.

P.s. hmmm, handling the reconcile. Well, try doing a -16.45 (really positive)
as the final balance; i realize it looks funny but that's how
a cc works.

I know how Quicken handles a negative balance. Want I wnat to know is how should an individual handle a negative balance when they are reconiling the statement, whether it be a credit card statement or some other account. I am sorry if I didn't make myself clear. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If it really bothers you to put a negative number in the Reconcile Startup, put a zero instead, and reconcile until the "difference" reflects your credit balance. Instead of Finish, click Finish Later. You won't get the "R" in the Reconcile column, but you will get the "c".
Next time when you reconcile a more usual balance, Quicken will complain that you may be reconciling out of order. Ignore the warning and continue. You'll show 2 month's worth of transactions on the reconcile page, but half will aready show checkmarks. Now when you Finish, both months' transactions will get the R.
