Bellidancer, I thought of that too (go back and get the disc), howevre, these computers had not been used for a couple of years, and they do not have the disc anymore. They switched to all Dell PC's (you know, a much better deal than any other PC manufacturer can make with better support) Plus Dell based in Austin Texas which is only 50 miles from where I got these.
Anyway, I do not know anybody who uses Mac, other than one guy who has a G5. Most people around here are Windows and Linux fans, I'm starting to see why now. The main problem is everyhime I click to open any file, it opens "Accelerated Reader" program. After dragging that folder to te Trash, I get "The file could not be opened because the program that created it could not be found." That is for everything except control panels and Norton.

Sorry but I've got stick up for the Mac. That LC is a 10 year old computer. Imagine if that were a 10 year old PC. At least you can download the OS for the LC right from Apple. Try downloading a free Windows 3.1 from Microsoft to run an old PC. You have everything you need to get that machine going but the experience. Most people around here are Windows and Linux fans, I'm starting to see why now.
It wants to open accelerated reader because someone told it to use that in the past instead of Stuffit, so it remembers it. It's just doing what it's told. Unfortunately the person that told it to use that didn't know what they were doing. The guy with the G5 can unstuff the images and put them on a CD so you can use them, or he can unstuff the stuffit installer for you.
Make sure you have Disk Copy on the LC's so you can use the image. It's a free download from Apple. You probably need v 4.3 for that machine and OS.

I know you can not get a free copy of Win 3.1 and I also know you can not get OS 8 free either, but you can download DOS. I also have PC's that are older than 10 years, and I am able to run linux just fine. One of the old PC's still has 3.1 on it and is still working great. However, you still need to give me one thing on the PC side, there is a lot more software and knowledge available on the net for it, for any version of Windows, 3.1 to XP, free or pay for it. If I have a question about Windows, it is answered and fixed the same day. Windows also does not require you to have third party tools to install it. You do not have to have another PC to make the disks to install the OS. If file associations get screwed up, you simply change it. People complain about Windows because it is Microseft and htey don't want to pay Billy. Well, Mac, it looks to me is proprietary. Aparently, I can only run OS7 - OS8.1, which has to be obtained from Apple. If I want a newer version, I have to buy it. Does nobody else see this? Well, I think I will just give these things away and maybe somebody else can fix them. It is too much crap to deal with for what it will be used for. OS7.5.3 only comes with a text editor. Nothing else and you can not find software to work with it anymore.
I guess I will stick to what I know and the the Mac's to the ones who have the time and money to mess with them.

Sorry to hear your frustration, clayc102. I know there are fewer Mac resources out there. However, Austin does appear to have one of the more active Macintosh Users Groups. You might want to check them out before throwing in the towel.

Wow! I did not see that before. I am still playing with it. I know I sound totally fed up with it, but that just makes me want to figure it out more. The thing that bothers me most is there is no way for me to do this without having to buy other software. Sure, I can download OS7.5.5, but then I will need Stuffit Expander (which from what I found is not free, just a trial. Plus, the only version of it I found says for OS8.0 or higher. Is there a free expander for OS7.5 that can be downloaded? Maybe if I work with this thing enough, I'll start to understand how it works.

Okay, I finally got it. Ben Franske (I give him thanks) over at Leovilletownsquare.com hooked me up. I was able to get Stuffit on the Mac finally and able to make the disks I needed. I am now able to open and install other software on the Mac. They are both working fine now that I updated the systems to 7.5.5. Thanks to all.
