Long story, but suffice it to say that I felt the need to do a clean reinstall of Quicken 2004. I backed up my data files, etc. and then dragged Quicken to the trash. I reinstalled from the disk, and the installation completed as expected. When I tried to open one (any one) of my data files, I was met with an error message that the file was not compatible and needed a newer version of Quicken. I have been using 2004 since it came out, and these files are most certainly 2004 files. I tried this reinstallation twice, with the same resultd. Luckily, I had not emptied my trash, so I was able to recover the original program and continue on. But, what happened? Why do my files think they need a newer version?
Thanks in advance!

Well, I guess I forgot to mention that if I simply try to open Quicken (the program itself, rather than a data file), it won't open. I guess I could try the update this evening when I get home and see. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll post back after I give that a try!

Last evening I did uninstall Quicken again, and reinstall. I had planned on updating through the software once I had it open, but that was not going to work as Quicken would not open. So, I followed the link above, and after a couple of false starts with the download (stubborn thing!), finally got it downloaded and installed. Quicken works fine, now! So, that was the problem all along -- needed the update to get it to work. I don't remember having installed an R3 update, only an R2, but now have the R3 and seems fine. Thanks for the help!
