Not Recognized by Updater [How to Restore?]

My iPod Mini works fine over both Firewire & USB in iTunes & shows up OK in Finder. The disk has been repaired using Disk Utility. For some reason the latest Updater doesn't see it. Is there any way to do a restore?
G4 iMac 10.3.8 / all updates

That is unusual. You might have a corrupt install of the updater. Try reinstalling it or restoring the iPod from an older updater and then see if the new updater sees it.

Make sure that iTunes isn't open when you open iPod software updater. It that doesn't work, re-download the updater.
