I have set up my powerbook G3 Prismo and G4 Quicksilver 733 to connect together via an ethenet cossover cable. I can connect to both macs from each other but the icons don't come up on the desktop or menu side bar. I have checked the preferences in the finder and it says show connected servers, hard dives and removeables like cd's.
As I can't see the icons I can't unmount the other computer. In the network pane it shows the other computer with an alias icon.
Should this be happening.

it appears like you are running X on your machines.
if so.
have you "Signed On" to the other computer?
double click the alias you see..
you need to enter the computer you wish to mount - NAME and PASSWORD (not the one you are typing on)
then it will ask the VOLUME you wish to mount.
presto.
oh yeah.. make sure your filesharing is ON.
and if your firewall is on, you need to allow it there also.

I have done this but the volume then doesn't show on the desktop or side menu bar as the finder prefs have been set. As I can't see the mounted volume on the desktop I can't eject it and I have to stay logged in unless I shut one machine down. Is there something I am doing wrong.

I am still having the same problem but now when I log into the other mac via the network, any sharded drives are seen and I can log into them but when I do I can see folders that I want to transfer files into but when I highlight the new folder, it dissappears from screen. I can still see it on the other mac but it is gone from the powerbooks view. If I try to create a folder in the same location it says that I do not have permission, even though all permissions are granted to everyone and I am the admin user on both machines.
Anyone have a clue?
