So, is there a difference between the ibook and powerbooks adapter? I've noticed a few times that when using my girlfriends ibook one with my powerbook, it won't wake up from a "dead battery sleep". Anyone? thanks.

Depends - how old is each machine?
The iBook may use a 45W power supply, which were replaced some two years ago by 65W power supply's. Running a machine designed for the 45W units with a newer 675W unit will be fine, but running a 65W machine with a 45W power supply will cause problems, especially with proper battery charging.

A very quick way to check is to look at the small print on the side of the adapter. One of the lines of text says what the output is, for example, 24.5V --- 2.65A in the case of the latest powerboks. If the voltage and amperage of the output match, the adapters are interchangeable, if not, you'll have problems using the one with less output to power the machine that needs more power.
