I know this has been discussed before, but the original eMac fan made an ungodly amount of noise. Has Apple addressed this issue? Are the current eMac models any quieter? I'm considering buying an eMac, but I sold the original because of the excessive noise. How does the noise level compare to the flat-panel iMac? Thank you, and have a happy Thanksgiving.

The eMac fan noise has not changed over time. The iMac is completely quiet and if the noise of the eMac is a major issue for you I think you need to shell out more and get the iMac instead.

Because iMac has no fan. Super quiet.

I work as a writer and use the eMac. It does make a certain amount of noise but it's not bad enough that I cannot work with it. I also always use iTunes to play some music while I am writing so maybe because of that the noise doesn't bother me as much.

All in all, given the money I spent on it I am very happy with the original eMac.

The eMac still is loud as hell, for most people. Some are not disturbed by its turbo-prop fan whatsoever, others are.
The iMac however is completely quiet. It does have a fan but it's temp-controlled and practically inaudible.

I live in a dorm room with an eMac and an iMac. When the eMac is not put asleep for the night, I can tell, as it sounds like a 12" fan is running on it's low speed. When the iMac is not asleep, neither of us would have been able to tell if it was asleep or not.
