I wanted to use Virtual PC with my mini, mostly for Access, but was adviced by my local Apple store not to bother as it ran like a dog.
Has anybody used it with a mini and what are your experiances.

Runs fine on my mini with 512 ram. Just a bit slow at times. Took forever to install.

Of course, descriptions like fast and slow are relative but while I think it usable 75% of the time for your "average joe" tasks, I don't feel it is a worthwhile journey to take. Even on my G5, I'd call it pokey. Of course, I'm running Windows XP Professional with some services disabled but 98 isn't a breeze. Just think of it like a 400MHz or so Pentium [1] w/ MMX.

Virtual PC is not that bad. I use it for MS Publisher and some programs I do not yet have on the mac. I was curious to see how it runs that I why I purchased it.
1. It is not even close to my P4 pc. Didnt expect it to be.
2. Runs like you are using an Intel Celeron or a notebook computer. Pictures pop up pretty fast from my digital camera folder.
3. I changed the background to just a color, no effects, no shading.
Running on a MINI 1.4 512 ram.

In the best of circumstances VPC is pokey. You can speed it up some by loading your Mac up with RAM, but it still won't be great for frequent useage. Especially if you are using it with a large Access database.
You can migrate your Access database to FileMaker Pro so that it will run natively in OS X. This product will help you with the migration:

Boost your Mac's RAM but give the Virtual PC only 256MB. I found that by allocating 256 instead of 512 sped up both my Win98SE and XP SP2 "machines." My MDD dual processor machine has 2GB RAM.

That is very curious. You had 2GB installed both before and after?
I think I'll have to try that and run some benchmarks. That seems really counter-intuitive to me.

Give VPC 256 and not 512MB memory. My Mac has 2GB RAM and VPC works better with the lower amount of RAM. See if you observe the same situation. Some have said that it is due to the memory addressing method...
