Hi.
I have an Epson Stylus Photo 820 which I love, most of the time. I have spent the last 5 hours trying to print matte postcards and have had to hand feed every single one because they NEVER load right. I can't afford to spend this kind of time on every postcard print job.
For that reason I am considering a color laser printer, but have some questions.
Am I correct that I would not have these paper jam problems with a laser printer?
What printer is a good one to get?
I saw the HP Color LaserJet 2550L at the Apple.com site. Does anyone know anything about it?
Thanks for the input.
Kathy

Lasers are great for graphics but ink jets are better for photos. The jets do better with dither. We have a Canon Imageclass C2100 which my wife uses for proofs with her design business. Usually don't have any problems with jams. It is a very expensive printer with 4 toner cartridges that cost about a lot to replace. We use a cheap epson ink jet free bee for printing photos. There are some nice printers out now days for less money than ever. I would be tempted to buy a professional series epson ink jet.

Laser Printers aren't problem free. I work for a school district and have worked with several different type. Yes, in general, they have fewer printer path jams, but card stock can still be a headache. And you usually have to feed card stock in the multifunction/manual tray. I use one color printer that can't printer on cardstock because every time I try it crumples the card.
On the other hand I just purchased a Samsung 550n color laser and am very pleased with it so far. Just printed business cards with no problem.

The printer type (laser, inkjet, etc) doesn't have much to
do with paper jams on heavy stock. It has mostly to do with
the available paper paths. If you have a straight-thru path,
the printer is less likely to jam.
Look to the printer specs on how thick a stock it can handle
and whether that has to be done manually.

I have an 820 that produced very good images but it was a pain to use for anything "unusual" even envelopes. I replaced it with a Canon iP4000 and the output is even better and the two paper trays and generally superior construction (to the 820)enable it to handle everything I have used it for up to now. I did not consider a laser printer because I print photos more than anything else and as was said already color lasers aren't as good as injets for that. I have access to a number of color laser printers at work and the only things that have been problems for them are transparencies that are not designed for the particular printer and sometimes labels that come off the backing sheet due to the heat of the printer.
