I have a previous post in which I was wondering how to make sure files are permanently deleted form my system, as well as how to recover files which have simply been deleted using the trash can.
Now I ask in your opinion: running max os x 10.3.4
1. What is the best program with with the Ensure Free Disk Space is totally unrecoverable?
2. what is the best program to ensure that files deleted by it will be permanently erased and unrecoverable by even highly evolved methods?
(freeware or pay sofware may be suggested, but if you know the price please list it in your post...thanks!)

I use two different programs to securely delete files. The one that I use most often is Secure Delete. This is a component the StuffIt Deluxe suite. It is the most convenient of the to programs. I just leave it in my Dock and I can drag files onto it to delete them. However, there is not much you can do to customize it.

The second program that I use for this is PGPFreeware. This one isn't as convenient to use because you have to run it separately and then drag the files to the appropriate button to erase them. However, it is free and you can specify how many times the application overwrites the file to be deleted. You can choose to overwrite from 1 to 32 times.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will definately check them out. I have a question though, do these programs have a Free Disk Space Eraser? See the files I want to protect have already been delted, and I want to overwrite the free disk space on the HD in order to make sure they CANT be restored.

I don't know what to recommend as a program to wipe free space anymore. I used to recommend the Speed Disk component of Norton Utilities. However, that suite of applications has descended in quality to the point that Symantec has given up on it. That last version of it never worked properly when installed on my computer. (I could it use when booted from the CD but not the installs that I put on my HD. The installs on my HD also cause a recurring error every time I started up the computer. I finally had to just delete if from the HD and just use the CD.)
