In reply to:

(1) was the PC connected via hard wire, and you then unplugged the wire so it would connect wirelessly?
(2) did this message come from the PC?

The Mac was connected via hard wire, the PC was connecting wirelessly.
The msg was on the PC...... was, "do you want switch the connection?"

You don't have Internet sharing on in the Mac's Sharing preferences do you?

At this moment I am connected via Airport Express.
I went and checked the sharing pref and yes, it's on and states that I am sharing my airport connection.
I guess I'm wondering what it says when I'm hooked up via HW E-Net???

It shouldn't be on. That function is only provided for the purpose of using a Mac as a "software base station". You have a router which is doing the internet connection sharing.

That's the problem, turn it off and all will be fine. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

OK....I just wired up and plugged in the Linksys router you advised me to purchase.
I plugged in my ethernet cable into the back of my Mac and turned Ap Extreme off.
I can now:
Connect to my Laserwriter Pro 630 printer and print
Connect to the internet (Enet connection seems much faster)
Connect to my WI-FI HP 5850 printer and print
Connect and print with my sons PM 8600 (OS9)
Connect with my iMac (this computer lost it's E net to lightning, so I found a Farallon USB to Enet adapter but the Jaguar drivers don't work so I can only print and connect via OS 9) Yes, I looked at AP original, but the cost seemed to high) This is another problem for another day.
Now I did all of this WITHOUT configuring a damn thing. The only thing I did was turn AppleTalk on for Enet.
So I have not created any network or anything.
You'd think I was in heaven (I am) but now comes the hard part....how do I connect with the Windows XP laptop without screwing up all of the Macs??
Thanks again...

Connecting the PC to the Linksys router is just as easy (or easier) than the Macs - just plug it in via ethernet cable, or connect wirelessly, and it will "just work".

Just to be clear.....you are saying that all I need to do is turn on the laptop and it should connect?
Sounds too good to be true, but I will give it a try.
If that works, I'd like to understand how to use the AP Express to link into the Linksys router so I stream airtunes?
Thanks loads...

You were right.
I did have to open up my VPN client and mess with the settings a little, but I did get it to connect.
Can't tell you how much I appreciate this help. This solves a host of problems I was having.
Now......how would I get the AirPort Express working so it will hook up to the linksys and all that??
Or...since I am connected via the hard wire ENet, perhaps I can just turn on AP Extreme card and hook up to the Airport Express and ignore the Linksys?? Not sure I could do that with all of these signals flying around the house??
Your help is much appreciated...

An Airport Express can be configured as a wireless client to all WiFi routers, which will allow the Express to be used for wireless printing and iTunes streaming

Can you tell me how I should go about accomplishing this without disturbing the fine network you now have me running here at home with the linksys router.
BTW, this router is a champ.....everything is working very fast. Even set up a folder sharing on the XP laptop and was able to mount it on the Mac.....but it did keep disconnecting for some reason as it was in the middle of the 4 GB file transfer. Keeps doing that..not sure why?
Anyhow.....How can I go about setting up the AE as a client??
Thanks again....

To set up the Airport Express as a client:
- temporarily cable the Airport Express to your Linksys router
- run the Airport Admin Utility
- under the Airport tab, select to "join an existing wireless network" from the drop down box.
- immediately below that enter the name of the wireless network it is to join (ie the SSID of your Linksys router)
- as I recall, you use no wireless security, so you don't need to enter anything found when clicking on the wireless security button
- make any required changes under the Music tab
- save settings. Let the Express reboot. Then unplug the Express from the router.
- that's it.

This may be a problem. The router and where the AP Express will be are on two different floors.
Have to see what I can rig up as a long E net cable....
Thanks loads...

The ethernet connection between the Airport Express and the router is temporary! Just connect the two with a short ethernet cable. Complete the configuration. After settings have been saved to the Airport Express you can unplug the Express from the router and from power - then move the Express to the location it is going to be used on a permanent basis. All configuration settings on the Express are saved internally in non-volatile memory, so it will start right back up with the way you configured it previously when it is unplugged from power, moved, then replugged into power.
