I put a cd in the slot. It did not show up on the desk top. I can't eject it even using the "when all else fails" recomendations (firmware)

I tried restarting with the mouse down, the F12 key, and the firmware restart (option - command- O- F) restart. I tried all of the Mac Help suggestions!

the Apple discussion forums have a lively thread going on HERE
it seems most actually get the CD to eject right at startup and tapping the eject key many times..
it also seems there are hardware problems.. glad mine doesn't have any that I am aware of.
hope it helps..

Had a similar problem with a powerbook from a friend of mine yersterday. I popped in a DVD for burning, but neither did the DVD show up anywhere nor did Toast see the DVD.
Since my friend never repaired permissions nor let the maintenance run on her 9 month old PB, I fired up DiscUtility and repaired permissions. Sure enough, plenty of work had to be done, and in the middle of repairment Toast started again and showed me the DVD. From there on, no problems anymore.
On a side note, I downloaded MacJanitor for her and let the maintenance run. She was happy as can be when even the performance of the coomputer went up again after using this utilities. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Cheers,
arne
