Hi every one,
i have a question. i have got a 12 G4 1.33 PowerBook but the thing is that i dont have a super drive built it so i cant export my iMovies to iDVD, so if i buy an external DVD writer would iDVD recognise it and work with it or not?
and if so what would the best External DVD writer for the Mac OS X.3.8 would be?

In reply to:
To use iDVD 5 with a external burner you need to save your movie as a DMG and burn that. iDVD can't burn directly to the external burner

Actually that is not true as of iDVD 5

Dear People,
What are the advantages of Titanium vs iDVD? Why is it worth buying, what features does it offer that iDVD does not? And is there a guide, manual or something to teach me how to use it? I tried Toast 6 Lite and it seemed to be quite complicated compared to iDVD. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Toast and iDVD are two different types of applications.
iDVD is for making DVD movies, usually from iMovie sources. With the included themes, you can create very nice DVDs with fancy menus and the such.
Toast is a media burning application. It's very easy to burn data CDs/DVDs with Toast. It also has the ability to burn Audio CDs with many features not found using iTunes. Video discs (VCD, SuperVCD, DVD) can be burned using Toast with many different video sources. You can burn many different types of formats.
As far as the DVD capabilities are concerned, I don't think Toast will generate DVD movies that are as "slick" as the ones from iDVD. Bottom line, if you have a Superdrive, I think there's room in your software library for both products.

You mean iDVD 5 can burn directly to an external burner? That article doesn't say anything about external burners. Only which internal Superdrives work. I don't think iDVD can do that.
Via DMG you can burn to a external drive, though.

Yes actually iDVD5 can and does burn directly to external DVD drives.
I have a Pioneer external drive that I connect to my G4 PB (1.33Ghz) thru firewire and I have burned many many many DVDs using iDVD5. I did use iDVD4 with the easter egg thing mentioned in the posts above and found it would work fine as well. Although I like using iDVD5 more since I don't have to do the little work around to get it to work, not to mention I think iDVD's added features are worth the money for what I use the application for.
I cannot say absolutely that every external drive will work with iDVD5 because of course I only use my Pioneer, but I have heard that other types of externals work just fine.
