Arthur Quiller-Couch, ed. 1919. The Oxford Book of English Verse: 12501900.
William Blake. 17571827
489. The Tiger
TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies 5
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart? 10
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp 15
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee? 20
Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

I installed Tiger last night, and it totally jacked my Panther install. I strongly recommend backing up first.
that being said, once I opted to reformat my drive and re-install (my important data was backed up), Tiger was flying high! It's fast, pretty, and functiuonal. All my apps work fine under Tiger.
I'd strongly recommend backing up data and files, formatting the drive, and installing Tiger fresh (not over an existing OS). You will need to re-install all your apps, but your system will be MUCH happier for it. Better speed and stability.

I'm planning on zeroing my drive and doing a clean install. Can anyone speak to my idea?
I am backing up my system on TWO drives! Will I be able to drag my user library back into Tiger (of course, using the same user name when installing) and have preferences and such work?

Be careful - two drives OK.
See the discussions in this MacCentral story and you will learn how to do a clean install.
Tiger ships early for some
While Apples Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger isnt expected to hit retail store shelves until Friday, the software may have shipped a bit earlier than expected, both from some third-party vendors who have accepted pre-orders for the software and also from Apple itself. MACCENTRAL, 2005-04-25 11:55 ET More

First I would suggest that zeroing your drive is a waste of time, especially as spacious as hard drives are these days. Formatting will be fine.
As for copying your files back, I've done it several times without difficulty. You will want to pay attention to permissions (check before you copy and compare after). Also make sure you catch the invisible files (if you are just drag-copying your files, make sure you grab your home folder rather than its contents).

Wow, I just booted off my "backup" drive thanks to CCC and man, does it FLY. I am convinced that zeroing this drive out before copying my Panther install over is a part of it.
I've made sure everything is over - I understand the clean install. I'm gonna go ahead and zero out, it certainly can't hurt. I'll have it ready for Tiger when it arrives tomorrow. I'll post back my results.
Thanks for the tips and concern!
