Specifically, did Canon pay you extra money to leave out any mention of THE DREBEL's MAIN COMPETING CAMERA, the Nikon D70?

A better comparison will surely be to Nikon's next-generation effort -- compared to the Rebel XT (I've used both, though the D70 mostly for macro photography in a lab setting), the Nikon D70 is not quite a lumbering oaf, but it's safe to say the Rebel XT wins on most counts: resolution, of course, and also speed and general capabilities. However, if you have a pile of Nikon lenses sitting around, I'm sure that the D70's successor will be well worth the wait. I only bought a Rebel XT because I got tired of waiting.
One very obvious functional difference -- the Rebel XT has a CMOS sensor, while the Nikon D70s uses a CCD. That one seems to break slightly in favour of the Nikon model, but my guess would be that CMOS is less prone to wholesale failure (not that either camera should be short-lived).

The Nikon comparative offering is now the D70s, an excellent camera. Nicer ergonomics and far better feel than the Rebel line, and with full built-in access to Nikon's superior wireles flash technology. Not to mention that D70 quality is far superior; just handle both cameras, anyone can tell the difference. Megapixel differences are not very relevant, just compare large prints to see the D70 print quality.
Another issue is where one may go in the future. Whichever brand one buys will strongly influence future camera purchases. The Nikon D2x is best at the top end, truly a spectacular DSLR, for folks who may someday go there, and is US$3k cheaper than Canon's top end.

I purchased the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT this weekend and it is great. I shot a couple of photos in RAW but I can not get Photoshop CS to open the files. I am working in Photoshop CS and the only RAW plugin I can find for the CANON XT is for Photoshop CS2. IS there a plug in for the XT for Photoshop CS? ANd can anyone tell me where I can find it? Or do i have to upgrade to Photoshop CS2?
