Hi. I was searching for RAM for my iBook, and newegg.com caught my eye: 1GB modules for less than $100. Surprisingly cheap, since Apple wanted $200+ for the same upgrade. Although, these are brands I've never heard of. I'm interested in hearing your opinions/experiences about this site and cheap RAM.

I don't recall 1GB models for under 100 - I remember seeing a Kingmax stick for ~150.

for what it's worth, i've been going through Data Memory Systems for the past 5 years. I've bought 64, 256 & 512 megs from them for my Pismo PB & my girlfriend's 500 MHz iBook (white). i've been quite satisfied w/ their products and customer service. People who know more than me say, RAM is RAM, and i don't need to buy the RAM from Apple. That sounds good to me.
Anyway, our 2 laptops have been chugging along without problems. hope this helps.

Here is the list of the RAM I spied. newegg.com
The Rosewill RAM seems to have at least one satisfied customer based on reviews.

Apple's specifications for the iBook's RAM is PC 2100. That's what I looked for on newegg.com. Did I read the specifications wrong? Although I'm looking at RAM Seeker as you suggested.

hi guys,
just a short (and probably dumb) question from my part:
will my spare PC2700 DDR333 S0-DIMMs (originally delivered in my beloved powerbook) work with a friends G4 ibook (2004)? they should work, but I'm definitely not sure.... /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
any short note/hint etc will be appreciated /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

PC2100 implies the speed of the memory. The iBook takes a SO-Dimm which is a different shape than desktop memory. If you look at the chips side by side the SO-Dimm will be shorter & squarer.

I DID read the specs wrong, then /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Sorry, it was a huge mistake on my part. Well, better start looking all over again...

Yes, the iBook will downclock the 2700 so it will run at the speed of the iBook's specified 2100.

You can use PC2100 DDR266 200 pin SO-DIMM or PC2700 DDR333 200 pin SO-DIMM at least if your iBook is a 1
GHz. I use generic RAM from Fry's or its Outpost.com. Fry's/Outpost.com also has excellent prices on name brand. Check Outpost.com out; Fry's brick and mortar usually will match the prices of Outpost--assuming they are not already the same. I prefer buying RAM from a brick and mortar so I can return it quickly/easily if it is bad. My Fry's 1 GB generic works perfectly. If generic, or name brand, is not bad "out of the box," then it should last a long time.

Hehehe... I'm guessing we don't have Fry's here in San Antonio, so I'll be looking at Outpost.com.
Thanks for your replies.
