I don't follow Mac insider news, so I'm not sure if the name has already been determined, but if Apple continues its trend of naming major releases after intimidating big cats, I think they may have run themselves into a corner.
Lets see... Cheetah - done. Jaguar - done. Panther? nope. You can knock Tiger off that list as well. What's next? Leopard? Somehow it just doesn't have the same ring to it. Lynx makes me think if Linux. Bobcat is a littly wimpy...
My guess is that the next one will be Cougar. Any ideas?

PS. I'm still waiting for my favorite: OS X Sabretooth!!!!

In 2003, Apple registered the trademarks Lynx, Cougar, Leopard, and Tiger as names for their operating software.
Tiger's obviously out, and I'm assuming that there's a reason why they didn't/couldn't trademark Lion, so take your pick from the above.

Tabby. Calico. Alley cat. Stray. There are plenty of names. Anyway, there's nothing wrong with moving on to a non-feline theme if Apple doesn't like these.

I am thinking "Tom" would be a great cat name.
You have Tom & Jerry... a cat that is very resourceful, determined and very damn persistant ( never stopping / quitting is a good image for an OS )
Then you have the F-14 tomcat.... needs no introduction.
Besides, it would be really cool to tell people this : " Yeah I'm running "Tom" , what are you running ? "

It has possibilities, no ?

I regard X as a very special OS that gives me a fuzzy feeling so I vote that the next version of X should be named Pussy Cat. Pussy Cat will never hurt anyone and will always be purring along.
Speaking of OS. I am laughing every time someone mentions Long Horn coming in the year In France, Italy and I think Spain too horns grow on cuckold husbands. Long Horns? Not me!
