I disliked the new Safari RSS feeds that can not be turned off in the prefs. I had to go to the terminal window to enter a special line : "defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1" (Note: Safari must be closed before doing this) to create a debug menu in Safari that I could then use to turn off the RSS feature. Then I found that many of my web site bookmarks then went to dead ends and had to be deleted. What was Apple thinking? Everyone must want this feature all the time. One should be able to fully turn RSS on or off at will without having to go through this. When I click on the New York Times I want to go directly to the NYT web site. If I want to see the lattest added stories list then I should be able to select that, but instead one always has to go through this list first before going to the NYT home page. I hope Apple realizes their mistake and issues an update to Safari quick.

I must say I have no idea what you're on about. The presence of RSS doesn't preclude visiting the home pages of any web site -- nor even of doing so by default. I have RSS on, but when I type http://www.nytimes.com/ I go directly to the home page of the New York Times and not to any special RSS feed page. If I click on the RSS icon, I then go to a page of new headlines as dictated by the RSS protocol but it's ONLY then that I go there.
And if I want to return to the NYT home page, it's as simple as clicking on the HOME link.
So what is the value of turning off RSS?
