I am trying to upload music I purchased from iTunes onto an iRiver mp3 player, however it doesn't recognize the m4p format of iTunes tracks.
How can I convert my purchased music from m4p to mp3 format?
Or at least upload it to an iRiver so it will actually play?

Music you buy on the iTunes Music Store is Protected AAC format. It can only play in iTunes or on an iPod. You can get around this by burning it on a CD and re-ripping it in to iTunes. Or via other utilities for converting it.
Apple wants to lock you in to the iPod with the restrictions.
