No, you can't remove them from the Widget Bar directly. You CAN delete them. Widget files live in either /Library/Widgets or ~/Library/Widgets; you can delete them there by trashing the appropriate widget file. There is no user interface in the Dashboard layer itself to remove widgets from the Bar.

Can anyone think of a reason why you wouldnt build in functionality to remove a widget from the bar?

When I drag a Widget out of my ~/Library/Widgets/ folder, the next time I bring up the drawer it's not there.

You can also use the pref pane Widget Manager if you want an even easier approach, my guess is that something like Widget Manager will be incorporated into OS X by Apple eventually.

This might be off the subject of removing a widget, but I was wondering why I don't get the ripple effect when I open a widget on my G4iMac (800 mhz/1GB RAM). I get that effect on my new 15 inch Powerbook but not on the G4iMac.
Thanks

The graphics card in the iMac is likely not up to the taks.

Exactly! The 17" 1.25GHz (USB 2.0) iMac G4 was the first iMac to be CoreImage capable.
