flashing blue earth icon at startup

eMac 1.42 v10.4
was experimenting with fire-wire hooked to my quicksilver v10.2...
also held mouse down to open DVD drive on startup...
just messing with controls seeing that everything works
when it is needed.
after this i am now getting on startup a flashing blue earth icon
then a flashing folder with a question mark alternating with a smily face for
a few seconds.

then the computer continues to boot up and everything thus far seems ok.
continued restarts produce the same.
any ideas please.

as God is my witness, i just logged on to tell you that is exactly what i did. course i admit i had no idea
what i was doing and why. i like learning the hard way i guess.
