Well, as much as I don't like the way the installer from that second download site works, the actual binary will be found in "/usr/X11R6/bin". If you cd to that directory from an XDarwin session, then typing ./gimp will start up gimp. Note that you will also have had to download and install the DLcompat Lib package too, as these libraries are not part of XDarwin.

If your packages seemed to have installed correctly, then it should start up fine.

Thank you, drmbb and piwozniak for all your help.

This is definitely going to be a learning curve for me coming from Fireworks MX, but I think with some work and a lot of tutorials, I'll be able to use it efficiently.

The one annoying thing is that it cannot recognize special fonts you have on your system, like Greek. I'll have to find a way around that.
