Hi,
I have used PCs for many years, just bought our first Mac, a 14" iBook.
It came with Jaguar installed and a disk with Tiger - should I go ahead and upgrade - or should I get used to J.first for awhile?
So far everything is going well - got easily online with my cable modem, tracked down new print driver for my Samsung printer (although it says for Jaguar and maybe will have Tiger driver problems?)
And... I know I'm going to get this white keyboard dirty!

My opinion, not knowing all the software you use, would be to go straight to Tiger. Jaguar is fine, but the user interface and feature set underwent many changes; you may not want to do all your learning when you will need to unlearn and relearn a fair amount of it for Tiger. Are you sure it didn't come with Panther? Jaguar is two generations back of Tiger. Also, Jaguar is not as fast as Panther or Tiger.
After you install Tiger, go straight to Software Update to download and install all system updates.
