Yes, competition is good. Before firefox everyone used I.E. (and Netscape) and it was terrible. The new version that's going to come with Longhorn looks okay (a lot like safari, in fact http://www.tuaw.com/...rated-at-birth/ ) .

I don't think that Safari would be extremely popular on Winblows. Winblows already has Firefox. Winblows programs never have an interface as nice and that is one of the best parts of Safari (at least for me). Firefox is more customizable and its interface probably wouldn't be any worse than Safari's on Winblows. The people who just want to have a browser that works without configuration of any kind would probably like Safari the best but would end up using I.E. as it comes with and is integrated with Winblows (And will soon do RSS). I doubt Apple would ever release Safari for Winblows either. It wouldn't make them any money (Very few would pay for it if Apple decided to charge) and wouldn't cause many people to switch. Apple hasn't made Winblows versions of any sotware but iTunes (To the best of my knowledge) and they did that for the same reason they made iTunes free: it made them tons of money. All this aside I would rather use Safari when I'm forced to use Winblows than I.E. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I just tried Shiira, and it's blazing fast! So far so go
That was my feeling too and uncluttered. I have not tried it with a bank yet to see if it works where IE is required. I also like that you just start and bang! All your bookmark are there. I still prefer Safari, its home for me like a well worn pair of shoes.

I heard about Shiira a while back. I tried it as well. If I recall it is based on the same Konqueror codebase that Safari is based on, which might explain its relative ease in using Safari bookmarks/etc. Though not being a progammer, that is just a guess on my part.
FWIW I use Safari as my main browser.. just my $0.02
