OSX and Snap Server

We have a mixed network and would like to set up a Snap server for the MACs. We have OS9.* and OSX 10.3.9. When I tried to back up the existing server files to the new Snap, I get a new naming structure, and a huge number of file types now show as "Unix executable file". (THis includes any fonts, Pagemaker, Illustrator etc.)
Does anyone have any suggestions, info, etc. as to how and why and fixes?
