I'm trying to help a handicapped friend who has a G4 running Panther. He has outgrown his internal hard drive but has space on an external hard drive. There is no system installed on the external drive. He would like to have his iTunes library on the external drive and somehow be able to listen to the tunes stored there by running the iTunes app which is on the internal drive. Is this possible? What needs to be done?
Or can the the whole of iTunes, application and library, be on external drive, even though no system is on the external drive?
Thanks,
David

I've done the same thing. It works fine.
The only dumb thing I do, once in a while, is when I'm using my laptop on the wifi network -- I have to remember to mount the standalone [which, in turn, is firewired into my Mini in our home/office]. Sometimes I forget that -- and get an error message from iTunes when I try to play something from the standalone.
