I'm now at 375 songs and over 1 G in my iTunes library, all from my owned CD's.
A few months ago, I posed this question and it was recommended that I burn data CD's to back up my collection.
I create a new playlist of the songs added since my last backup and burn them to a new CD.
Is this still a viable alternative? I have no plans to add an external drive or iPod.
Thanks for the input. Bob.

Rcovell,
I think I remember your thread earlier. If you burn a data CD from within iTunes, that'll certainly back up the music files. However, if you're interested in the other information (play counts, ratings, playlists) that are stored in xml files, you'll need to back them up via Finder (or with Toast, etc.).
Otherwise, burning a new CD of just the songs that haven't been backed-up previously will work fine.

You have a good memory. I decided this weekend to run a backup and got my notes out on how to do it. Your post on how to backup was the one I had printed out and saved, you must have ESP and heard my belated thanks, again.
The playlist info and other data is of no interest, I just want to save myself the time of having to re-copy all the CD's again. They're currently stored in a 'jukebox' type arrangement, so it's a pain to physically get them out in the first place. I only want to do it once and your previous suggestion has worked just fine. I've played the back up CD's and everything seems to work as advertised.
Since it seems to be workable and nothing better is on the market, for my needs, I'll keep at it.
Thanks once again for your input. Bob.

I'm glad you got it to work. Keep havin' fun with your gear.
