I recently wiped my g4 powerbook and reinstalled os 10.3.1, but now the computer doesn't seem to recognize my superdrive as having the capability to burn cds. Is this a common problem? Is there an easy solution?

For starters go under the Apple (top left) About this Mac-->More Info, and see if the System Profiler shows your superdrive being alive. One member had a similar snag, and after a log out/log it...the drive worked again. Worth a try..

I've checked there and it recognizes the drive and says that it is writable, but none of the burning software recognizes the drive as writable.

Your superdrive must work for reading since you installed OSX 10.3 again. Maybe you got a 'bad' CD, and should try another unless you already have done that. If its been a long time since you have burned a CD maybe it just needs a good [cleaning] which you can get at your local computer stores. What software are you using to burn, ie. iPhoto, iTunes, or just the burn feature w/in the Finder? Might also try logging into a different User and see if you can burn to a CD. If so, at least you know its in your account.

It's not the CD, I've checked that. The drive is working when I watch Dvds and the like. But when I went to itunes to burn a CD it said "no disk burner or software found." I downloaded different cd burning software (diskblaze or something like that) and it wouldn't burn. I checked the preferences in that program and it says that it does recognize the drive, but it says that the drive can't burn cds--something to the effect of RW: false, DVDRW: false. I haven't tried just burning in the finder. I guess I could, but can you burn music cds in the finder? If the finder doesn't work, do you have any other ideas?
