I have an apparently offbeat problem. I have a large number of files that I need to compare to a list, but the files names are not on the list. Instead, the list entry for each file corresponds to the files comment fields. What I think I need is a program that can copy the comment fields of a group of files to the clipboard. From there I could compare the accumulated comments to the list in TextWrangler. The problem is that there does not seem to by any utility that can copy comments from multiple files. (In fact, the comment field seems to have been largely neglected in all the utilities that I know of.) Does anyone know of a utility that can do this? Am I going about this the wrong way? Is there a way to perform this operation in AppleScript?
I am running Mac OS 10.3.9 and I have already looked at FileBuddy and PathFinder. I can switch to pure OS 9 if someone knows how to do this in OS 9. The list is plain text.
Thanks to anyone who has an idea of how to do this.
