So when I plug in my iPod I get the big circle with the slash through it, and the "do not disconnect" warning.
I can not see my ipod in iTunes (which does not update the ipod) or the finder. (10.4.2) I can, however, see the ipod in disk utility - where the 37.3 GB Apple Computer icon label is normal, but the icon and label for "my ipod" are greyed out.
I can get the iPod back to normal by clicking this and ejecting, but if I try mount, it says it can't be mounted.
Help, please!

It maybe happening because you are clicking the do not auto update?
In the iturns pref, ipod, click the manual update.
This may help
