Roxio at the end of the month will release a new version of their CD and DVD burning software for the Mac—Toast 7 Titanium. It features extensive changes under the hood, including support for the DivX video compression format, the ability to browse iLife content and many other changes. more

It's actually cheaper to get the physical product from Amazon than Roxio as a download. Given, you can get it sooner via download, but as I have Popcorn already, I don't see a pressing need to upgrade quite yet.

15gb temporary disk space??? I'm sorry but either that's a typo, or it's just ridiculous. My powerbook has a 60gb hard drive. I'm not going to keep 15 of that free just so i can use toast 7.

PopCorn has the same requirements... it's for the DVD compression... you may need up to 15 GB when using that feature.
9 GB for an uncompressed VIDEO_TS folder on your hard disk.
5 GB for temp file created while compressing.
1 GB for other caching.
So... for all other uses of Toast you don't need 15 GB... but that particular feature you do...

It's not a typo.
Toast 7's video capabilities have been dramatically improved with this release; it basically incorporates all the capabilities of Roxio's Popcorn software.
If you're not going to be compressing dual-layer DVDs and burning archives of them using Toast, chances are you'll never see Toast use that much space, for the reasons that macuser25 succinctly explains in his post.

If someone buys this now, will they still be able to use it if they later buy an Intel-based Mac? Or will you then need to buy version 8.0?

The best new feature for me is data spanning. I've been waiting for this feature for a long time. This is going to make my job a lot easier.

Well I guess procrastination has its perks. I've been crippling along using Toast Ti 5 on Tiger for months thinking I should go out a buy 6. Glad I didn't. This looks like a more worthy upgrade!

The Elgato support isn't new--it's there with 6.

As the DivX website says: DivX 5 does not support Mac OS X 10.4 or QuickTime 7. We are working with Apple to resolve several compatibility issues. And there is no DivX 6 available for the Mac.

Of course. For one thing, there's already DivX support for the Mac in version 5. For another, Roxio has apparently been working with DivX themselves to ready 6 specifically for Toast 7 Titanium. This will be the only place you can find DivX 6 for the Mac to start with -- apparently Roxio has some sort of exclusivity arrangement with them.

Hi,
I believe the DivX 6 codec for MacOSX is available as a beta known as DivX Fusion Codec coupled with DivX Converter app. More info at http://labs.divx.com/?src=footer[u]divxlabsfrom_/index.php (scroll down a bit to see earlier blog entries there).

I don't expect Apple to bother with Divx... isn't it basically a competitor to their goals of mp4/H.264?
