My eMac monitor no longer shows any images (banging the top no longer works either). Is there any easy solution to this problem? Can I hook up a flat screen monitor that will act as the desktop?

Hi
don't know about the older eMacs, but recent models support an external VGA video mirror.
check your emac and if it has a VGA port on it, hook one up. if it's the monitor that's out, you should be OK, if it is the video card, then you are outa luck.
if you currently do NOT have an extra display with VGA to try it, you can always use an S-video and connect to your TV to the S-video input if you have one ( VHS decks have em also, so you could go thru that if you have to)
the picture will suck, but at least you will know you can go thru the expense of a display purchase knowing the output on your emac will drive it.

Hi
The eMacs have a mini-VGA port. Same as the earlier revision(s) 12" PowerBooks and iBooks (both 12" and 14"). The eMac, I believe, comes standard with the mini-VGA-to-VGA (regular) adapter. The mini-VGA-to-S-Video/Composite adapter is a "sold separately" item.
We had an eMac with such a problem in a couple weeks ago. As far as repair...Expensive part and not so simple replacement. The customer decided to take advantage of their warranty. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
You should be able to use an external display, if the logic board isn't damage, not too likely if it powers on and all that.
